Passive joint mobilisation is a technique frequently used to reduce pain, improve joint movement and facilitate a return to activities after injury.
Another hands on technique that typically moves and stretches the joint sometimes to the end of it’s availible range. Sustained techniques are used to increase range, where as oscillatory techniques may be to reduce pain or move swelling.
An example may be to restore movement to an ankle following a chronic sprain or gentle movement to a stiff neck joint.
Results are usually immediate if the technique is successful but may be require repeat application and back up with appropriate exercise/stretches.
